Qualification Requirements and Regulations
The qualification received by Bachelor students of Biology program is necessary and minimum sufficient for professional functioning in the field of research of live nature and its laws, general rules of structuring and functioning of live forms, laws of heredity and variability of biological species, in the field of environment functioning. Bachelor of Biology receives enough qualification to perform professional activity in scientific research, scientific production, project events, general comprehension and college-level specialized educational institutions.
Program Profile
Bachelor student in the field of “Biology” 6.040102 receives necessary knowledge to perform professional activity in biology-focused fields including scientific research, scientific production, administration, management and teaching. During studying students take practical training course as part of their studying and scientific research module. The qualification paper is written based on students’ own experiment research. Total amount of ECTS credits for the program is 240 including the module of humanities, social and economic studies of 45 credits, the module of fundamental, natural and scientific studies of 47 credits, the module of professional and practical skills’ training of 140,5 credits, state accreditation of 7,5 credits.
Key Learning Outcomes
Results of mastering the program “Biology” are identified by knowledge and skills acquired by program graduates, as well as their ability to apply the received knowledge and skills according to the tasks of their professional performance. A graduate must:
- follow ethical and legal regulations concerning people and the nature;
- demonstrate basic knowledge on biodiversity and understanding of its existence for biosphere functioning;
- be able to access and analyze the states of live forms;
- have good comprehensive knowledge on life structure on molecular level;
- apply advanced experimental methods in biological studies using modern equipment which makes such experiments possible;
- understand evolution ideas in biology, and have modern ideas about micro and macro evolution;
- demonstrate modern profound knowledge on basic biotechnology and genetic engineering as well as molecular modeling and the reasons and ranges of their use in modern producing technologies and human life and health safety;
- be able to participate in discussions and teach basic biology in education institutions of certain levels of accreditation.
Professional Graduates’ Profiles and Potential Positions
The activity fields for Bachelors in Biology are biological systems of different structure levels, processes of their functioning, evolution, biological, bio-engineering, bio-medical, environmental technologies, biological testing and monitoring, evaluation and use of bio-resources. Bachelor must be able to solve the following professional tasks: in the sphere of scientific activity – participate in scientific research field work, laboratory biological research, analyze and discuss the received information using advanced process equipment and software, literature reviews, work out new methods, write reports, articles, organize scientific conferences; in the manufacturing sphere – participate in keeping under control the processes of biological production, running bio-monitoring and evaluating the state of nature, planning and holding events on nature protection, processing and analyzing the obtained results using modern IT methods; in the administration sphere – participate in planning and running events on nature protection, renewable bio-resources, sensible use of nature, writing financial papers and reports; in education sphere – to give training courses and classes in biology at schools, sightseeing and group work.

Bachelor in Biology can continue studying at NaUKMA at the second level of higher education (levels – specialist, Master) specializing in “Biology” and any other qualification which are available at University among Master and Specialist Programs.
