This year's Academy Day (14th October) was special for our community – students, professors, and all of the NaUKMA friends. The Academy celebrated the 20th anniversary of its revival! In 1992, 20 years ago, students entered the restored Kyiv-Mohyla Academy again.
NaUKMA Honorary President Vyacheslav Bryukhovetskyi remembered that the revival of the Academy in the early 90's looked like a desperate gamble – it was hard to believe that the Academy would rise on its historical premises and become Ukraine’s leading university again. Vyacheslav Bryukhovetskyi is convinced that the goals he set together with his colleagues in those days have been achieved, and it is time to move on: "The shift that we have done cannot fully satisfy us, since we will always strive for more, but these shifts are irreversible. We can be proud that the majority of students, alumni and staff of the Academy are people bright and pure. That is why we are faced with a big task: to make the world brighter and purer. I am convinced that together we will do it!"
Kateryna Maxym, one of the first students of the Restored Academy, greeted the NaUKMA on behalf of the University alumni. Ms. Maxym shared her memories about the time she spent at her Alma Mater as a student: «We considered our education a great start, a springboard for a jump into the decent life, into the world. We have achieved our dreams, and now the Academy pulls us back, someone earlier, someone later. It took me 8 years to understand the magic of these walls and how incredible are the people who created and continue to create the Academy."
A lot of guests took part in the celebration and congratulated the NaUKMA community. Among them there were: Head of the State Administration in Podilskyi district of the city of Kyiv Petro Matvienko, Academician from the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences Yaroslav Yatskiv, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Poland to Ukraine Dr. Henryk Litwin, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of France in Ukraine Alain Remy, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Germany to Ukraine Christoph Weil, partners and friends of the University.
The NaUKMA community also received musical greetings from the vocal formation "Pikkardiyska Tertsiya".
