“The Phenomenon of the Ukrainian Jewry:
Life after Death, Antisemitism without Jews”
European Jewry nearly disappeared in the aftermath of World War II. What was the fate of Ukrainian Jews? What have the independence and the Maidan changed in their worldview? What is antisemitism like in a country where almost no Jews exist?
Vitaly Portnikov is a Ukrainian journalist on the Radio Liberty / Radio Free Europe, the author of numerous articles in Ukrainian, Russian, Polish, and Israeli media and of such books as “The Angels’ Jail” (2012, in Ukrainian), “Virgin Mary in a Synagogue” (2010, in Ukrainian), “Why is Medvedev?” (2008, in Russian).
