Jewish Identity and Antisemitism: Forms and Mutual Influences
Contemporary Antisemitism in Ukraine and Worldwide
Different types of Jewish identity will be traced in this lecture, as well as Jewish identity’s form and essence. The lecturer will pay attention to the causes of the transformations of one’s Jewish self-consciousness. He will explore how the changes of Jewish identities influence the emergence of new antisemitic stereotypes. Contemporary forms of Jewish identity and antisemitism in Ukraine and across the globe will be also discussed.
Yosyf Zissels is a Ukrainian civic leader, Executive Co-President of the Association of the Jewish Organizations and Communities of Ukraine (Vaad of Ukraine), Executive Co-President of the Congress of Ethnic Communities of Ukraine, Chairman of the General Council of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress. He is the author of such books as If I am not for myself... (2000, in Russian) and If not now... (2006, in Russian).
