Kyiv-Mohyla Academy Celebrates 402th Anniversary!

The Day of the Academy was held at the University at Friday, October 13. The whole day was full of various activities.
The folk chapel choir Pochaina performed with a traditional spiritual singing. The NaUKMA Student’s Brotherhood organized the "Clean Skovoroda" campaign, during which students washed a monument to the Ukrainian wandering philosopher. The Brotherhood of the fighting Cossack custom "SPAS" staged demonstrative performances with sabers, whips and knives. This is sport organization of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy, which contributes to the preservation of the Ukrainian martial art of close combat - SPAS. The first (!) in the history of the KMA tournament on giant chess took place on the Mohylianka's birthday.
The central part of the holiday was a collection of the students, teachers and friends of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy in the circle of guests and partners of NaUKMA. The main theme of the solemn part of this year was the question: "What does inspire the Mohylians?".
Andrii Meleshevych, the president of NaUKMA, told about the achievements of the year in detail. One of the important achievements of this year was the Skopus award in the field of social sciences, one of the five Skopus awards received by the universities of Ukraine.
There were many victories at Kyiv-Mohyla Acalemy this year. The highest award of NaUKMA - "Medal of St. Petro Mohyla" - this year awarded three Mohylians: Larysa Masenko, professor of the Department of Ukrainian language Faculty of Humanities; Kostiantyn Sytnyk, a leading electronic engineer at the Information and Computing Center; Oksana Markarova, First Deputy Minister of Finance of Ukraine, Governmental Commissioner for Investments, NaUKNA alumna.
Volodymyr Vasylenko, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine, Professor of the Department of International and European Law of the Faculty of Law was marked by the honorary diploma of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.
Liudmyla Kostrova, head of the educational-scientific center and associate professor of the chemistry department received the reward from the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine.
The winners of the scholarship from the Charity Foundation "Believe in Yourself" were personally rewarded by the co-founder of the fund Victor Ivanchyk. This year, the scholars from Mohylianka received 10 students: Oleh Boichuk, Voloshyna Ilona, Natalia Honchar, Yemelianov Olexander, Zhelezniak Alla, Zinevych Olesia , Olkhova Yuliia, Orliohlo Sofiia, Pyvovar Olena, Sydorchuk Kateryna.

The most intimate part of the celebration was the discussion with the Mohylians - Roman Petrov (Institute of German Law), Vladyslava Osmak (Center of Urban Studies of NaUKMA), Sofiia Kostomarova (Moot Court competitions), and Dmytro Chebanov (Student Self-Government).
Throughout the year they worked on innovative projects, participated in the international competitions and actively developed Kyiv-Mohyla Academy. Guests of the discussion talked about how they worked on projects that began to succeed later.
At the end of the official celebrations all the guests had an opportunity to enjoy the performance of the music band "Guliaihorod".
