Traditionally the Focus Journal ratings consist mostly of governmental and political authorities or powerful businessmen. However, during several latest years they tend to pay more attention to the people who really work on making our country a better place to live in – innovators in multiple fields, activists of cultural projects, developers of the civil society.
There were three representatives of the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy in the 2017 Top 100 List: our Honorary Professor Refat Chubarov (51st) and two alumnae – Olesia Ostrovs’ka-Liuta (75th) and Ol’ha Kudinenko (86th).
Refat Chubarov is the Head of Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People. He has been a Deputy of Ukrainian Parliament since 1998, now it is his fourth term. He heads the Mejlis since 2013. He is the one who represents the Crimean Tatars in Ukraine and all over the World together with the legendary national leader Mustafa Djemiliev.
Olesia Ostrovs’ka-Liuta is the Director of Mystetskyi Arsenal. She heads this top biggest and most influential cultural center in Ukraine since 2016. She is also a co-author of the Cultural Strategy of Ukraine 2015 initiative. She is the one who’s voice is especially important for Ukrainian art and culture.
Ol’ha Kudinenko is the co-founder of Tabletochki Charity Fund. This Fund was established six years ago to help children to conquer cancer. Since then the Tabletochki team have sent 51 child to the best foreign hospitals for full treatment and provided 1650 more with the necessary medicines. The Fund also develops palliative medicine in Ukraine, they are very active in volunteering and multiple donation projects. Establishing a center of psychological support for children with cancer and a bone marrow donation center are among their nearest plans.
