The Ministry of Defence and the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy sign Memorandum of Cooperation

 

The National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy and the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine have signed a Memorandum of Cooperation.

 

On the NaUKMA end the initiative is joined by the NaUKMA Center for Mental Health and Psychosocial Support possessing 10-years of experience in successful psychosocial support in Ukraine. More on the Center’s expertise and projects.

 

Under this cooperation, at least 40 military psychology officers and clinical psychologists will undergo training in the evidence-based CETAPSS (Common Elements Treatment Approach – Psychosocial Support) methodology. This is an approach that is implemented by the Mental Health Center at Kyiv-Mohyla Academy is grounded in international standards and enables the provision of more effective support to military personnel amid the ongoing war.

 

The uniqueness of the evidence-based CETAPSS approach lies in its ability to stabilize an individual's condition and alleviate symptoms within a relatively short time. It also equips individuals with skills they can apply independently for self-support in the future.

 

“Our military personnel endure immense psychological stress daily, and we must do everything possible to provide them with high-quality care. This training will significantly enhance the system of psychological support and recovery for our defenders,” stated the Deputy Minister of Defence of Ukraine, Brigadier General of Justice Serhii Melnyk

 

In addition to training, the Memorandum also facilitates research on the effectiveness of psychological recovery for military personnel in inpatient rehabilitation centers.
