International conference devoted to the 100th anniversary of Qurultay was held at NaUKMA

 

Qurultay of the Crimean Tatar People is a national congress and the highest representing plenipotentiary body of the Crimean Tatar people.

100 years ago, in November-December 1917, in the Crimea, at this assabley, the statehood of the Crimean Tatar people was declared, the parliament was elected, the Constitution and national symbols - the flag, the anthem - were adopted.

 

December 7, Crimean Tatars of Ukraine celebrated the anniversary of such a significant event, in particular, by the holding of an international scientific conference "100th anniversary of Qurultay: past, present, future". Its organizers were the Majlis of the Crimean Tatar People, the Scientific Center "Crimean Studios named after Ismail Gasprinski" (NaUKMA) with the participation of the major "International relations, public communications and regional studios" of the Department of Political Science of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Social Technologies and with the support of Jean Monet NaUKMA department.

 

Gayana Yuksel, a member of the Majlis of the Crimean Tatar People, director of the Crimean News Agency, candidate of philological sciences, said that the celebration of the Qurultay of the Crimean Tatar People here in mainland Ukraine is very important not only for the Crimean Tatars, but also for the entire Ukrainian people, given political context - the temporary occupation of the peninsula.

 

Significantly, the conference took place at Kyiv-Mohyla Academy. A few years ago a scientific center "Crimean studios named after Ismail Gasprinski" was created in Kyiv-Mohyla Academy. Activities of Ismail Gasprinski were aimed at the interdisciplinary study of the history, culture and nature of the Crimean peninsula.
